The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Colombo celebrated the Qatar’s National Sports Day on 14 February 2017 at City Grounds, Colombo based on the vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to raise awareness about the importance of sport and its role in the life of individuals and community as a platform for a healthy life, adding that sport is an integral part of Arab and Islamic heritage and culture.

The National Sports Day events held with the participation of His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Advisor at the Emiri Diwan of the State of Qatar and the Qatar's candidate to the Post of the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), His Excellency Rashid Shafea Al Marri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Colombo, Some other Arab Ambassadors in Colombo including His Excellency Zuhair M. H. Dar Zaid. Ambassador of Palestine and His Excellency Al-Sheikh Jumah Hamdan Al-Shehhi, Ambassador of Sultanate of Oman and the Staff members of the State of Qatar.

The sports activities featured football and walking.
