The Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani paid a two day state visit to Sri Lanka in 2012 ,on an invitation by Former  President MahindaRajapaksa.

During the visit several bilateral agreements were signed to further promote cooperation between the two countries in investment, economic cooperation, tourism, education, cultural and legal fields.
